Absley Pearce
Goodman
Dec 14, 1935 — Jul 8, 2026
Tampa, FL
Absley Pearce Goodman, 90, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026. Born on December 14, 1935, she was a devoted mom, wife and sister. She made friends with everyone she met, and she had an immense love for her family and her country.
Absley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Goodman; and by her sister and best friend, Gary Pearce Lehan. She is survived by her loving daughters, Laura Capen (Wayne) and Beth Vandergrift; her cherished grandsons, Justin Vandergrift, Andrew Vandergrift, and Morgan Capen; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
A proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, Absley was a lifelong Gamecock and a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Upon graduation, she took great pride in being a First Grade Teacher at Mitchell Elementary School, where she adored her students. She was a Gamecock at heart but also an enthusiastic Florida Gators fan, happily cheering on both teams with equal passion.
Absley was a faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church for more than 60 years and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Tampa. Her commitment to her church reflected a life of generosity, grace, and service.
More than anything, Absley cherished her family. She treasured spending time with her daughters and adored her grandsons, and her son-in-law, Wayne. Some of her happiest memories were made while cruising with Laura, Beth, and Wayne. She especially enjoyed it when she and “her girls” were called the “Three Amigas”, while visiting Cozumel. They shared laughter, adventures, and precious time together. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love created a legacy that will continue to live on in those who knew her.
Absley will be laid to rest in her family's plot in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, beside her parents, Judge C.B. Pearce and Absley Eason Pearce. A small graveside service will be held there at a later date.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
