Alan Smith, 82, of The Villages, passed away on April 9, 2018 at home under the care of Cornerstone Hospice and his wife Ruth Ann.  He was born in The Bronx, NY on October 6, 1935 to his parents Maurice and Julia Rutstein Smith.  He served as a cook in the Army during the Korean conflict.  He then studied business while working in the garment industry and graduated from New York University.   He moved to Los Angeles for his work in the garment industry and owned ladies clothing stores.  In 1982, he moved his family to Seminole, Florida.  He then worked in the fresh fish business, owning fish houses that supplied grouper, and other seafood to restaurants and fish markets around the country.  He retired from Madeira Beach Seafood in 2010.  He was an avid tennis player, perfecting drop shot and "the Lob". He also was a great sports fan, always rooting for the Yankees, Giants, Florida State Seminoles and University of Southern California Trojans.  He and Ruth moved to The Villages in 2005 where he could enjoy the amenities while still working from home.  He loved being with his family, cooking and cruising.  He always held a special place in his heart for his wife Lucia who lost her battle with cancer in 1999.  He is survived by his forever grateful wife Ruth, his loving daughter Jill (Roy) Hayden, cherished granddaughter Rochelle, his dear son Ryan (Snow) Smith, son David and sister Anita.  Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
