IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Aleith
Godfrey
January 11, 1939 – July 25, 2023
On 25 th July 2023, Aleith "Cherry" Godfrey (née Johnson) passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Aleith was born 11 th January 1939 to parents Claude and Albertha Johnson in St. Mary, Jamaica. Her own mother pre-deceased her at 11 months. Aleith made her home in Spanish Town, Jamaica and later in South Florida and finally retiring in Ocala, Florida. She completed all her formal education in Jamaica, attending Linstead and Tulloch Primary School, Dinthill Technical High School, and Villmore School of Commerce. She was proud of her tenure at Jamaica Public Service (JPS) where she worked as a secretary. She enjoyed being an entrepreneur and for a few years owned a small bakery in Spanish Town. She was baptized at age 16 in the Seventh-day Adventist church, the "greatest day of my life," she recalled, and remained faithful all her life. And it is at church where Aleith shone brightest. She used her creative mind to write remarkable plays for her beloved Sabbath School, all to the glory of God. She was known for amazing culinary skills both as cook and baker. But most of all she will be missed for her infectious smile. She is survived by her sons Sean Godfrey and Kevin Godfrey, granddaughter Katarina "Kai" Godfrey, sister Enid "Blossom" Johnson, adopted daughter, Loris "Bobbette" Tabannor and son-in-law Basil Tabannor, friends Carmen, Ryan Wiggan and Yvonne Wiggan, cousins Zaza and Lorraine. And by a host of children who call her mom, multitudes of friends, and an innumerable church family.
