IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred Edwin
Kendzierski
November 16, 1928 – January 9, 2025
Alfred Edwin Kendzierski of Ormond Beach, Florida previously of Park Ridge, Illinois passed away in hospice at the age of 96. Just a few months prior to his death he was still living in his own house and driving. "Fred" was born on November 16, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Theresa (Koscielski), sisters Virginia Mull (Stanley) of Pennsylvania, Loretta Carlton (Austin) of Florida, daughter Theresa Szponder of Berkeley, Illinois and son-in-law Doug Goulet of Lansing, Michigan. The love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Mercedes also preceded him in death in 2016. In 1953, Fred married Mercedes Patt at St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church and honeymooned in Florida where he promised they would retire someday. Fred kept his promise and in 1983 retired from Commonwealth Edison in Chicago at the age of 55. Together they built a beautiful home and life in Ormond Beach, Florida. Fred had a knack for repairing items others would often discard. With ingenuity and common sense, he could pretty much fix anything.
Surviving is his daughter Donna Goulet of Lansing, Michigan, grandchildren Jennifer Gelsomino (Chris) of Elmhurst, Illinois, Mark Szponder (Karen) of Berkeley, Illinois and Brian Goulet (Maria) of Lansing, Michigan. Great-grandsons Austin and Tyler Gelsomino, and Vivian Goulet who was just born in November 2024. At that point in time Fred said, "as one enters this world another one leaves." He also said his life was complete as he had two great-grandsons and now has a great-granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 9th at 11am as St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 3636 W. Wolfram, Chicago, Illinois 60618. Fred will be laid to rest at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery 8600 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, Illinois.
