Obituary

Alice Rauch, 100, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away on February 26, 2025.

Alice was born on September 20, 1924, in Blue Island, IL to Irvin and Lillie (Wierman) Flassig.

After graduating from Thornton High School, Alice eloped with her high school sweetheart, Herman Rauch on September 26, 1942. Not having an actual wedding, they celebrated several special anniversaries through the years with the most recent being their 75 th wedding anniversary in 2017.  They remained married for 76 years until Herman's passing in 2018.

Alice enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, and baking.  She hand-stitched quilts for her family, as well as for those in need through the Mission Workshop at church.  For years, you could find her on Sunday afternoons doing the Word Search puzzle from the Sunday newspaper.  In recent years she had books of word search puzzles that she completed.  Alice was an avid game player; Bingo, Greedy, and Yahtzee were just a few of her favorites. Alice enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies and banana cream pies. And some 40 years ago she started baking Christmas cookies and candies for her family, which became a family tradition that continues on through her family.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Carolee (late Robert) Gleim, Shirley Niemeyer, grandchildren, Charlene (Emilio) Quezada, Julie Gullifer, late Jon Gleim, great-grandchildren: Kaitlin, Emily and Jeremy Quezada.  She is preceded in death by her 5 siblings, Loyal, Earl, Delores, Wayne, and Gerald Flassig. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 485 Turnbull Bay Rd, New Smyrna Beach, FL, 32168, on March 20, 2025, at 11:00am, with a celebration of life and a light luncheon in the fellowship following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Mission Workshop of Trinity Lutheran Church. Bottom of Form

Alice will be remembered for her strong faith in the Lord, her kind heart, and her humor and sassiness that gave us a smile, a laugh.  A beautiful, loving, and creative woman, Alice will be deeply missed.
