Obituary

Alvin "A.B." Meloy, 90, of Leesburg, passed away Sunday, December 31st 2023. Alvin was born September 2, 1933 in Collins, MO. to Claude and Ruth Meloy. A.B. graduated from Collins High School and joined the U.S Army. In 1955 while stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, he met Faye. They married in 1957.

A.B. served the U.S. Army honorably for 20 years and was stationed in Korea, Germany, and Vietnam as part of the Big Red One. Serving in the artillery and radar unit during one of his two tours in Vietnam, A.B. received the Purple Heart. A.B. later moved to Fort Sill, OK where he instructed service members of the U.S. military and its allies on artillery deployments and tactics. Prior to retirement, A.B.'s two sons, Brent and Brian were born. A.B. remained lifelong friends with many of his fellow soldiers he met while stationed there.

In 1973, A.B. retired from service and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas in Arlington. A.B. then began a new career with Tandy Corp. in 1973. More than 20 years later, he retired and moved to Florida in 1995 to fish, boat, relax and be with grandkids.

A.B. is survived by his loving wife, Alice "Faye" Meloy. They were married for a wonderful sixty six years. Together, they traveled the world. He is survived by his sister Jane Pritchard of Fresno, CA, his son Brent and his wife Danielle of Port St. Lucie, FL, and his son Brian and his wife Brandi of Tavares, FL.

A.B. is also survived by seven grandchildren of whom he was very proud; Zachary Meloy of Summerfield, FL., Ashlyn Meloy of Grand Island, FL. Zachary Meloy of Cherry Point, NC, Dominic Fonseca of Port St Lucie, Whitney Meloy of Tavares FL, Madison Meloy of Tavares FL, and Nathan Meloy of Tavares, FL

Visitation and celebration of his life for family and friends: 10:30-12:00 at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 1350 E Burleigh Blvd, Tavares, FL. Following the service, burial will be at Bushnell National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave Bushnell, FL. 2PM
