Amy Mecca lost her battle with cancer on July 7, 2012. But not without a mighty fight. She survived years longer than she "should" have; her desire to live for her boys, her legacy; Jeffrey Michael, Anthony James, and James Robert, sustaining her. She lived for her husband, Andrew, who will miss her feisty spirit. She lived for her clients, whom she inspired and pushed to be hale and healthy. She lived for her mother, Betty Sue Pond; her brother, John Pond; and her sisters, Susan Schwartz and Lallon Pond. She was, and remains beloved by us all.
Amy was born on June 10, 1955 in Newport, RI, the second child of Capt. Robert Birney (deceased) and Betty Sue Pond. A child of the Navy, she moved frequently until settling in Orlando during high school. She married the boy next door shortly after graduation, to whom she remains married. They grew three delightful boys, the joy of Amy's life. At 50, she competed in her last body-building competition, of many. As a personal trainer, she inspired her clients with compassion and discipline. She taught a very popular bootcamp and was a mainstay at the Winter Park YMCA.
Amy's memorial service will be held at All Saints Church of Winter Park on Wednesday, July 11th at 2:30 pm.
Donations to the Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs are welcome.
