Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Andrew Baysura, Jr., on June 5, 2026, in Fort Myers, FL, after a courageous battle with Stage-4 Prostate Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. Andrew was born on December 5, 1955, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Andrew Baysura Sr. and Pearl Baysura. His legacy is marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering love for family and country.

Andrew, lovingly known as Andy, was a man of remarkable character and integrity. He was a devoted father to Danyale Marie (John) Davis and a cherished grandfather to Bryce Aiden, Cameron Alexander, and Jax Peyton. His family was the center of his world, and he was never happier than when he was surrounded by his loved ones. His joy extended to his siblings, Linda Anne (Robert "Doc") Mueller, Kim Michelle (Brian) Leroy, the late Joseph John Baysura, and their families, with whom he shared many cherished memories.

A proud graduate of Knoch High School in Saxonburg, PA, Andy went on to serve his nation with honor in the United States Navy, dedicating over 24 years of his life to ensuring the safety and readiness of the forces. In January 1999, Andy retired as Master Chief (Gunnersmate/Missleman) from Naval Station Mayport, FL. His career as a Weapons Officer, Ordnance Officer, and Explosives Safety Specialist was marked by extraordinary achievements and the highest standards of professionalism. Andy's expertise in ordnance and explosives safety was widely recognized, and he played a pivotal role in enhancing the operational readiness of the Navy’s Atlantic Fleet.

Andy’s military career was distinguished by numerous accolades reflecting his dedication to excellence and leadership, including the Meritorious Service Medal (1999), Navy Commendation Medal (1991 and 1994), Navy Achievement Medal (1984 and 1986), Southwest Asia Service Medal (1993–1994), Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation (1987), Battle Efficiency Ribbon (1992 and 1994), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 11 service stars, Navy Expert Rifle Medal (M-14), Navy Expert Pistol Medal (9mm), and Five Good Conduct Medals. His contributions left an indelible mark on the Navy and the countless service members he mentored.

Beyond his service, Andy was a man of many passions. He was an avid lover of dogs, especially Labrador Retrievers, and found great joy in their companionship. His involvement with organizations such as the VFW and Moose Lodge 1899 reflected his commitment to community and camaraderie. Andy was known for his warmth, humor, and the stories he shared from his military days, often with a loyal group of friends over a drink at the local bar.

Andy’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams at Lee Health Outpatient Infusion Center and Gulf Coast Medical Center for their unwavering support and care during his battle with cancer. Their compassion was a source of strength for Andy and his family during challenging times.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to SPCA Florida, an organization close to Andy’s heart, at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/2026donations

A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Andy’s wishes and celebrate the incredible life he led. Though he is no longer with us, Andy’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, bravery, and devotion will forever remain a guiding light for his family and friends.

May his soul find eternal peace, and may we cherish the memories of a truly remarkable man, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, and friend.
