Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Andrew Gayda, 81, of Oxford, Florida, on January 24, 2026.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Andrew was the beloved son of George and Mary Gayda. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of Sergeant and serving in Vietnam — a reflection of his courage, discipline, and deep love for his country.

Andrew worked as a dedicated lineman for United Illuminating in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he built not only a career but lifelong friendships. He was known for his strong work ethic and steady presence.

Upon retirement, Andrew embraced life in The Villages, Florida, where he formed new friendships and enjoyed many wonderful times. That chapter of his life brought him laughter, companionship, and countless good memories.

Above all, Andrew was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. For 54 beautiful years, he shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Lynn Gayda. He was the proud father of Christine Gayda and a loving grandfather to Spencer Sampiere, who brought him immense joy.

Andrew had a kind heart, a quick wit, and was always the jokester — the one who could lighten any room. His love for family and friends was constant and unwavering.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter Christine Gayda; grandson Spencer Sampiere; sister Frances Saunders; several nieces and nephews and their children, whom he loved dearly; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Gayda; his brothers Joseph Gayda, George Gayda, and William Gayda; and his sister Mary Kmetz.

A service will be held at St. Mark the Evangelist RC Church in Summerfield, Florida, on Monday, March 16th at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lynn Gayda for Spencer’s education fund.

Andrew’s legacy lives on in the laughter he shared and the deep love he gave so freely. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
