Obituary

Andrew "Andy" Paul Buckel, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away on July 31, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on July 26, 1952, in the Bronx, NY, Andy was a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Buckel; son Andrew Buckel; daughter Kathryn Green (husband Zachariah); brother Thomas Buckel (wife Victoria); sister Carol Dennis (husband Michael); and nieces and nephews Thomas, Cynthia, and Jennifer. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Elaine Buckel, brother Kenneth Buckel (wife Maria), and his beloved dogs Jake, Bear, Maverick "Mavey," and Charlie.

Andy's early years were spent in the Bronx, where he graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in 1970 and later from Lehman College in 1976. His enduring love story began in grade school at St. Brendan's, though Patricia does not recall meeting him then! Their paths crossed again in 1973 on a ski trip at Mt. Snow, VT, where Patricia was his instructor. They married on September 14, 1974.

Andy had a distinguished career as an IBM Senior Customer Engineer, earning multiple MEANS SERVICE AWARDS, which included a memorable three-day trip to various U.S. cities. A devout Catholic, he was also known for his love of fishing, skiing, and mechanical tinkering. His passion for car restoration was evident, though he never quite finished his 1957 Chevy. Known for his quiet humor, Andy was a skilled prankster and a deep-sea fishing enthusiast who could filet and cook fish better than anyone—despite not eating it himself.

Andy's spirit will be remembered fondly by his many friends, including Kevin and Claudia Chase (and their children Brian and Stephanie), John Brower (and his children Kimberly and Joseph), Louie DePalma, Tommy Ollis, Frank and Liz Converse (and their children Colleen and Kim), Ray and Kim Murphy (and their children Greer, Taylor, and William), Beth and Steve Zellmer (and their daughter Michelle), Carol and Vinnie Foy (and their children Shannon, Kyle, and Patrick), and his fishing buddy, Billy Addams. His yearly "stooge ski" trips with friends John Brower, Ronnie Algiere, Jimmy Santoro, and Jerry Santoro were among his favorite activities.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 North Central Ave, Flagler Beach, FL. A farewell Viewing will follow from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 1185 W. Granada Blvd. #11, Ormond Beach, FL. A Remembrance meal will be held at 4:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to wear casual attire in celebration of Andy's spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations to organizations fighting cancer, such as St. Jude's, would be greatly appreciated.

The family thanks you for your love and support during this time. Further details about the location of the repass will be provided in the coming days. If you are able to attend, please let the family know before Saturday, August 3, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations to any organization working to help or beat cancer would be appreciated (Andy loved Saint Judes!).
