Obituary

Angela Hall, born Angela Dolores Carella, passed away at the age of 95 on March 14, 2025 at Halifax Hospice in Ormond Beach, Florida.

Angela (she hated being called Angie) was born May 29, 1929, in Lyndhurst, New Jersey to Peter and Rose Carella. In their traditional Italian household, she and her brother, Charles, learned the value of family as part of a close-knit community that included dozens of actual and honorary aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.

After graduating high school at the age of 16, Angela studied fashion design in New York City, making daily forays into the Garment District to learn her craft. She employed her design skills and business sense to open a successful clothing manufacturing business in Lyndhurst with her mother under the name of Rose-Ann Sportswear. Long after selling the business, she continued to design sportswear, dresses and other articles of clothing. She drew tremendous satisfaction from the process of transforming her designs from conceptual drawings and patterns to one-of-a-kind fashions beloved by her numerous clients and customers. Highly motivated and industrious, Angela worked for decades as a self-employed seamstress, first in Wayne, New Jersey, and afterwards in Oakland Park and Boynton Beach, Florida, until the arthritis in her hands finally forced her to retire thimble and thread. Her family proudly displays colored pencil and graphite drawings of her earliest designs, which display a distinctive Art Deco sensibility.

In 1949, she met John Robert Hall. The couple married April 28, 1951 and remained devoted to each other until John's death in 2002, just 19 days shy of their 51 st anniversary. Prior to John's death, he and Angela enjoyed traveling. They toured great swaths of America by car as well traveled to Italy to celebrate their 50 th Anniversary.

Angela is survived by her three sons, Thomas (Connie) of Fort Myers, Stephen (Lisa), of Ormond Beach, and John (Heather) of Haines City, Florida. Angela also leaves behind seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Angela was a devout, practicing Catholic and credited her own religious upbringing with her strong views on religious, moral and ethical subjects. Should any of her sons, or others, take issue with her views, she'd typically deflect with "I can't help it. I'm Catholic." If that failed to win the day, she'd add "I can say what I want. I'm Italian."

There will be a Celebration of Life Mass for Angela at St. Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church at 1000 Ocean Shore Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025. A luncheon will follow at Rose Villa Restaurant, 43 W. Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Halifax Hospice, 235 Booth Road, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
