IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Angelo
Rivera
April 23, 1940 – June 4, 2023
Angelo Rivera passed away early on Sunday morning June 4, 2023. He was the strongest man we all knew, in body and spirit, beating cancer 4 times, plus a few accidents that certainly had us all concerned, bouncing back each time with all his heart. At 83 years old, it all took its toll and we had to say goodbye to the man we loved.
From simple roots in the Bronx he led an amazing life spreading joy and love wherever he went. Along the way he helped build not one, but 2 great families and, with his love and respect, pulled them together. He was an unassuming patriarch, but there was no doubt he was the one that everyone looked to for guidance and support. He had a way of bringing old school values & charm and applying them to whatever the world churned up.
He worked hard, always looking to ensure a fruitful future for those around him. He would put in the overtime and do the side jobs but, at the end of the day, he loved to throw his line in the water looking for a bass. He would sit with you all night by the campfire telling his crazy stories (sometimes you thought he might just actually own a helicopter) or have a few drinks and teach you some new card games. He had unparalleled patriotism, bearing the Stars and Stripes every day, and a comforting faith in the strength of the community. For many years he proudly put his life on the line as a volunteer firefighter. While he was working, he faithfully represented his teamster brothers and, when retirement gave him the time, he could be found advocating in neighborhood meetings. Never seeking recognition, he was always eager to stand up for what was right.
Angelo joins in heaven his mother Frances, as well as his sisters Aida and Wilma. He is survived by his wife Mary Rivera, his first wife Jeannie Hendrix, his brother Edwin Rivera, his children Deborah Rivera, Doreen Rivera-Buttone, Melissa Terry, Steven Rivera, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life on 7/1 from 3-6 pm at La Hacienda, 1200 Avenida Central, Lady Lake, FL 32162. To celebrate Angelo's spirit, mourners are encouraged to wear patriotic attire. For details or accommodations, please reach out to immediate family. Lady Lake will have their first inaugural town fireworks that evening, and everyone is encouraged to join Angelo in spirit to take in the show from local viewing areas. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to donate to a cancer charity of your choice or your local volunteer fire department. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449. Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com .
