Anita
Canfield
May 8, 1938 – March 9, 2022
Married for 62 years to the love of her life, Anita is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Kate (NSB), sons Matthew (Pineville, LA), and Scott (NSB), sister Lenora Magrone (NSB), brother Sam Magrone (Delaware), and three grandchildren
Originally from Berwick, PA, Anita won a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Nursing Program where she earned her RN degree. It was here she literally fell (down a ladder) into the arms of Dick Canfield, her future husband.
In 1966 the Canfields moved onto a 42' houseboat in Miami with their small children, ages 2, 3, and 4. They spent many happy weekends cruising Biscayne Bay and the Upper Keys while Anita worked at South Miami hospital and Dick taught at Miami Dade Community College during the week.
In 1973 the family moved to NSB and Anita worked first at Bert Fish Memorial Hospital, then later for a local dermatologist until health problems forced an early retirement.
Her greatest passion was reading and she always had a stack of books by her side. She is a past President of Friends of the New Smyrna Beach Library. She was renowned for her creativity and skill in the kitchen where it was said she would never be captive to the tyranny of a recipe. Anita worked tirelessly in her many beautiful flower gardens; and created many works of art in her quilts and needle work.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to your local hospice or animal shelter in Anita's memory.
