Anne J. Horne

1932 – 2020

Anne Jewel Horne of Winter Park, FL passed away at the age of 88 on Wednesday, September 9, 2020,  of Coronavirus and subsequent complications.

Born August 3, 1932 in Live Oak, FL, Anne was the first of four children born to Lillie Estelle (Hadden) Tompkins and Lewis Edward Tompkins.  Anne was the last of her siblings to pass away.

Anne lovingly taught kindergarten for nearly 30 years at The St. Johns Lutheran Church School in Winter Park, FL.  In her later years of teaching, Anne was able to teach the children of some of her earliest students.  After Anne retired in 1989, she energetically volunteered with local community food relief and shelter organizations, sharing her faith along the way and developing enduring friendships.

Anne is survived by her two sons: Charles H Horne, and wife Margaret (Geary), Burnsville, NC; and Randall L Horne, and husband Charles T Ivey, Orlando, FL; as well as her two grandchildren: Charles C Horne, Winter Springs, FL; and Rachel E Horne-Jones, and husband Noah B Jones, Asheville, NC; and her four great-grandchildren: Chase C Horne and Jewel B Horne, Winter Springs, FL; and Heron L Jones and Freya L Jones, Asheville, NC.

Anne will be buried at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park, alongside her husband of 68 years, Harvey J Horne, who passed away in 2018.  In light of the current circumstances, a gathering in celebration of Anne's life will be held at a future time.
