Obituary

Anne M. Hubler, a devoted educator, generous host, and unique spirit, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, in The Villages, Florida, at the age of 82. Known affectionately as Annie, she will be remembered for her wicked sense of humor, quiet dedication to her community, and unyielding love for her family.

Born to the late John D. Murphy and Dorothy I. Murphy, Annie pursued her passion for literature, earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from SUNY Oneonta. She dedicated her career to the relentless pace of shaping young minds as a high school English teacher in New York and Virginia. Upon her retirement, she moved to Florida, where she embraced a more relaxed schedule—visiting friends, shooting pool with neighbors, and embarking on local adventures with her beloved sister.

She was a woman of distinct tastes and passions. She unapologetically cheered for the teams people love to hate: the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. Her perfect day began with a hot cup of Dunkin' coffee and ended with a slice of flaky fruit pie. Her sharp wit was best showcased by her favorite Christmas gift wrap, which featured ornaments hung on barbed wire.

Her compassion was shared without pretense. She had a profound love for all animals, large and small, which famously included a local band of backyard raccoons she spoiled with 50-pound bags of Ol' Roy dog food. Her heart for people was equally huge. For years, she opened her home to countless missionaries and students for legendary Thanksgiving dinners. She was also a dedicated platelet donor, consistently giving the gift of life to others.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Dorothy I. Murphy. She is survived by her sister, Helen Poor; her nephews, Christopher (Kim) Poor and Jonathan (Mary) Poor; and her grandnephews, Hudson, Davis, and Thomas Poor.

A private inurnment at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Oneonta, NY, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Annie's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Audubon Society, two causes close to her heart. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449. Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
