Barongi, Anthony (Tony) –October 27, 1923 to July 31, 2009.  After a short but valiant battle with cancer Tony Barongi passed away on July 31, 2009 at the age of 85.  He and his wife Wini settled in New Smyrna in 1974, after growing up in Jackson Heights, New York City and Albertson, Long Island.    He graduated from the New York School of Printing and enlisted in the Navy (CB's) in 1942.  He was a Boatmen's Mate second class and served during WWII in the Pacific and participated in the Battle of Midway.   In 1944, while they were both in enlisted in the armed forces, he married his elementary school sweetheart, Winifred (Wini) Senig.  They shared 65 wonderful years, and traveled the country and the world together.   They had their only child in 1952, a son Rick that they never ceased to brag about.   Tony was also known as the "Baron" for his privately owned print shop on Dixie Highway.  He and Wini retired from their business in 1992 but remained very active in the community.   Members of the Smyrna Yacht Club for over 30 years, they loved to play bridge and party with their many dear friends.  He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Elk's.      Tony had a special talent for deal making, whether buying or selling something and rarely came out on the short end of any financial transaction.   He was a very sensitive and passionate individual who lived life to the fullest.  Just two months before his death he and Wini took a vacation in the Bahamas where they waded in the blue Caribbean with their son and daughter-in-law.    He also loved his dogs and we have no doubt that a whole pack of four legged friends were waiting for him at the gates of heaven.   He was a memorable and powerful figure, both in life and in death, and he touched the lives and hearts of many. He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Wini Barongi, son Rick and daughter-in-law Diane Ledder of Houston, Texas. Tony was the second born of seven children and is survived by his older brother Robert (Long Island), younger brother Frank (Port Orange) and sister Mary Ferrente (Queens).     Friends may send condolences directly to the family.  In lieu of flowers the family prefers that donations be made to either American Cancer Society P O Box 266 New Smyrna Beach FL 32170-0266  or Southeast Volusia Humane Society 1200 S Glencoe Road New Smyrna Beach FL 32168. 12 Noon Wednesday, August 5 at Baldwin Brothers Memorial Chapel 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 (map/driving directions) Following cremation Tony will be placed with honors at Florida National Cemetery.
