Arlene Davis, 79, of  Port Orange, Florida,  passed away May 16 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey.  Arlene  and her husband Robert Hoefler raised their family of  four in New Jersey.   She later married Peter "Harry" Davis and their families became one.

Her entrepreneurial style led her down a busy path of running restaurants, buying and selling houses, and gathering friends along the way. Many family vacations and road trips, including Disney and Daytona, eventually led to their relocation to Florida. Arlene continued her career in hospitality when she  opened the  locally renowned Boondocks Restaurant in Wilbur-by-Sea in 1995 successfully running it for twenty years. She was a fixture there, welcoming all and befriending many.

Arlene's parents were Walter C. Money and Helen Lowenberg. Her children are Jeffrey Hoefler (Kathy), Lori Gromis, Amy Mullen (Pete) and Jennifer Bowens (Curt).  She leaves ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren to remember her kindness and generosity.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved  son Jeffrey. She is survived by her sisters Nancy Money (Paul Thabault), Susan Money (Greg Mullins) and Janice Ferrari (Rich DiMinno) and her daughters and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Arlene was a hardworking, entrepreneurial lady who balanced the life of a busy restaurant owner with her responsibilities of being a Mom and grandmother and "ggma", as her great granddaughter Jenna called her. She also enjoyed browsing and supporting  the many local second hand stores, and after her retirement she became a volunteer.

Her daughter Lori helped her manage Boondocks and later, as Arlene's  health declined, was her loving and dedicated caregiver. Her daughters Amy and Jen, who live in NJ, were frequent visitors as as were her many grandchildren. Arlene's home was always a gathering place for her large extended family. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will remain in our hearts forever. The family will have a small private gathering but Arlene would want you to raise a glass of your favorite beverage and enjoy life to the fullest, as she did.
