It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Athena Fremstad, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Athena peacefully left this world on June 3, 2026, at the age of 57, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication that touched the lives of many.

Born on August 1, 1968, in Leadville, Colorado, Athena was the daughter of John and Peggy Cook. Her early years were spent surrounded by the beauty of the Rockies, where she cultivated a deep appreciation for nature, family, and community.

Athena pursued her passion for education with unwavering dedication, earning her bachelor's degree in education from Colorado State University. She furthered her studies at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, where she obtained a master's degree in special education. Athena's career as a special education teacher spanned over a decade, during which she specialized in working with gifted children with dyslexia. Her gentle spirit and innovative teaching methods inspired countless young minds, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Athena was a guiding light in her family, married to her soulmate, John, since July 10, 1998. Together, they raised their son, Jagger, in a home brimming with passion for sports, entertainment, and literature. Athena's dedication to her family was unmatched, and she found immense joy in being a mother, actively participating in the PTA and youth sports.

Athena's generous heart extended beyond her family and career. She was a fervent advocate for animal rescue, dedicating countless hours to ensuring the safety and well-being of animals in need.

Athena is survived by her loving father, John, her devoted brother, Shawn, her beloved husband, John, and her adoring son, Jagger. Her legacy will continue to thrive through their lives and the countless others she touched with her kindness and wisdom.

As we remember Athena, let us cherish the warmth of her smile, and the unwavering love she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be dearly missed but forever celebrated in our hearts.

A private celebration of Athena's life will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to local animal rescue organizations, continuing Athena's legacy of compassion and care for all living beings.
