Barbara Jean Jagla, age 87, of The Villages, Florida, formerly of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice with her children by her side on June 23rd, 2026.
Barbara was born on December 19, 1938, in South Bend, Indiana, to Roman Kominkiewicz and Mary Andrzejewski Kominkiewicz. She attended Central Senior High School in South Bend and later worked as a bank teller at First Source Bank.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Eugene Richard Jagla. Together, they built a life grounded in family, faith, and community. In August 2023, Barbara moved to The Villages, Florida, where she continued to enjoy time with her family and participation in local organizations.
A faithful Catholic, Barbara was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in The Villages, Florida, and Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana. Her faith was an important part of her life and a source of comfort, strength, and guidance.
Barbara gave generously of her time and spirit through many organizations and activities. After moving to Florida, she became involved with Operation Shoebox, which packs care packages for deployed U.S. military troops; the American Legion Post 347 Auxiliary; the WWII History Club, where members appreciated her firsthand knowledge of that era; and the Indiana Friends Club, where she enjoyed reminiscing about her home state.
While living in South Bend, Barbara was active with the Polish National Alliance, South Bend Turners, St. John’s Catholic Church Grandma’s Club, and the Red Hat Club. A devoted Notre Dame fan, she especially enjoyed cheering on the women’s basketball team. In her earlier years, Barbara was an avid bowler; more recently she enjoyed water aerobics, chair yoga and cardio drumming.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Brown of The Villages, Florida, and Lisa (Mark) Middleton of The Villages, Florida, and; her grandson, Nicholas (Ryann) Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her granddaughters, Claire Middleton of Cleveland, Ohio, Madeline Brown of Brooklyn, New York, and Rose (Patrick Connell) Middleton of Lewes, Delaware.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Richard Jagla and her parents, Roman and Mary Kominkiewicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on August 21, 2026 at 11am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 3616 St. John’s Way, South Bend, Indiana. After Mass, internment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, and then all are invited to a luncheon afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Shoebox in the Villages, Florida (https//operationshoebox.com). Kindly send your donations to Cheryl Brown, 1546 Resthaven Way, The Villages, Florida 32163 and they will be forwarded to the organization. Your donation will directly support supplies and postage to ship 600-2,000 care packages a week to our troops.
May Barbara rest in the peace of Christ, and may her memory be a blessing to all who loved her.
