IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barry L.
Mcfarlan
April 26, 1950 – July 20, 2025
Barry L. McFarlan, 75, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on April 26, 1950, Barry embodied the values of dedication, humility, and quiet strength throughout his life. A proud graduate of Central High School, Barry went on to serve in the United States Navy for six years, exemplifying his lifelong commitment to service.
Following his military service, Barry became a firefighter for the City of Bridgeport, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring. After retirement, he and his family moved to Colorado, where he began a second career as a tractor-trailer driver. He later drove for Walmart, earning the distinguished honor of being inducted into the company's Million Mile Club for his safe driving record and professionalism.
Barry had a deep love for motorcycles, cars, golf, trivia, and the timeless music of the 1960s. He was an active member of several organizations, including the B.P.O.E., the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters, and the American Legion Post 347 in Lady Lake, Florida—where he enjoyed volunteering on Saturday mornings, often seen flipping pancakes with a smile.
Above all, Barry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Deborah Balkan McFarlan; his sons, Michael (Angela) McFarlan of Ocala, Patrick McFarlan of Wilton, Wisconsin, and Mathew (Amanda) McFarlan of Spring Hill, Florida; and his cherished granddaughters, Elia and Amaya, who brought him endless joy.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, William McFarlan and Cecelia Rosenberg McFarlan.
Those who knew Barry will remember his steady presence, quick wit, and generous spirit. Whether lending a hand, sharing a story, or simply offering his quiet support, he left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Placement at Florida National Cemetery and a Celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barry's memory to a charity of your choice.
