Benjamin Lewis Dyer II was born on January 31st, 1944, at the Broadway Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Halifax Hospital was utilized by the WACS and housed prisoners of war during WW II. Ben, as he was known, grew up in Daytona and attended school at Riverview, Ortona, and Seabreeze High School. While at Seabreeze High School, he was in Key Club, played football for the Sandcrabs, and met his future wife.

Ben graduated from Seabreeze in 1962 and attended University of Florida on a football scholarship. He played football for four years, was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture. Shortly after graduating from college, he married his high school sweetheart, Dianna Davis.

He began his career working with Bruce Briggs in land development, then moved to Tallahassee to pursue a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at Florida State University. His next career step took him to Fort Lauderdale, FL where he accepted a position with Davis, Craven & Thompson as an urban planner. Then, in 1976, Ben and his young family moved back to the Daytona Beach area where he worked with Volusia County in the planning department. He was employed with Volusia County for the remainder of his career and retired as the Manager of Comprehensive Planning at the age of 63.

Retirement brought opportunities to spend more time with family and to travel. He insisted on personally maintaining his yard and pool until his last two years when he was forced to slow down due to health concerns. Ben was surrounded by family and loved ones in his final days.

Benjamin is survived by his wife, Dianna, their children: Virginia Dyer, Elizabeth Dyer Radic (Dejan), Benjamin Dyer III (Miosotys), and grandchildren: Dianne Radic, Samuel Dyer, Eduardo Soria, Eva Radic, Adeline Radic, and Elijah Dyer.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 12, 2026, at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 S Halifax Dr, Ormond Beach, FL 32176.
