Sibley
August 25, 1931 – September 28, 2021
Longtime Maitland resident, Benjamin Page Sibley, passed away in his sleep on September 28 at the age of ninety. Ben was born In Washington D. C., spending his early years in Ponce, Puerto Rico before moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, graduating from Louisiana State University where he was active in Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
Upon graduation he began his service in the Army Reserve as a combat engineer, later earning his aviator wings, seeing action during the Korean War, and retiring in 1980 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Ben's employment with Cutler Hammer brought him from Birmingham, Alabama to Maitland in 1962 where he and his wife Beverly raised their young children.
He joined HSH Insurance and Bonds in 1970. He later became a partner and remained with the firm until his retirement in 2002. His community involvement included serving on the Maitland City Council in the late 'sixties, being a founding and long-time member of the Maitland Men's club and founding and long-time member of St Alban's Anglican Catholic Cathedral in Oviedo.
Ben leaves behind two children, Craig Sibley and Debbie Sibley Mitchell, and grandchildren, Cameron Mitchell, Mary Rebekah Sibley, Paige Mitchell Martin and Benjamin Craig Sibley II and great grandchildren Beverly Martin, Emerson Martin, Caroline Mitchell, and Benjamin C. Sibley. His wife of 64 years Beverly Leet Sibley predeceased him on September 4, 2014. Ben's lifelong joys were travel, gourmet cooking, golf and service to his church and community. His boundless energy, constant smile, and sense of humor will be missed by countless friends here and abroad.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 15 at 11:00 am at St. Alban's Anglican Cathedral found at 3348 W. State Road 426 in Oviedo. A reception will follow at Venue on the Lake, Maitland Civic Center, 641 S. Maitland Avenue Maitland, Florida 32751. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cathedral in his honor.
