Benny John
Jones
December 25, 1946 – May 24, 2026
Benny John Jones (79) passed away on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2016. He was born in Red Bay, Alabama but spent his early years in Elaine, Arkansas where his father was a sharecropper growing cotton. When he was about 7 they moved to Davie, Florida. After high school graduation, Benny enlisted in the Army where they trained him in communications. He spent his tour of duty in Italy where he was stationed on a mountain top and responsible to maintain radio communications between Europe and America (no satellites then). After that, Benny became a builder/contractor and in his later years worked on many Tavares homes DBA Benny Jones Home Repair. Many people relied on him for everything from painting their roofs to complete room remodels. He was able to make their dreams a reality.
Benny was an ordained minister and his desire was to help Christians form a deeper walk with Jesus. Outside of the conventional church structure, he maintained SON LIGHT MINISTRIES, INC. where he reached out to many over the internet. Always ready to share his love for the Lord, he loved to meet people and often opened his wallet to someone on the side of the road as he felt The Lord nudge him to “bless that one.”
Benny is preceded in death by his parents, John Lee and Mary Ethyl (Kemp) Jones; three brothers, Homer, Hollis and Herbert, two sisters, Estelle and Dorothy. He leaves behind his sons, Shawn Benjamin Jones and Michael Andrew Jones (Lisa) along with his family by marriage Alexis Lenssen-Getford (Jamie), Paul Howard Andree (Crystal) and Erika Andree Bond (Matt). He also had 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Benny will be interred at the South Florida National Cemetery in the Army section. Many thanks go to Cornerstone Hospice of Lake County who took excellent care of him when he could no longer stay at home and to Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home for their expert help in a difficult time.
