Bernadette C. Smith passed away on August 24th, 2026 surrounded by love.

Bernie, also known as Nana, was born on June 6th, 1945 in Patterson, New Jersey. She was the beloved daughter of Catherine Hann. She leaves behind her daughter Kathy Smith; sister, Patricia Banta, and sweet dog Tucker. She also leaves behind grandaughters, Kristyn Kelly and Kathleen Kelly whom she loved as her own. She was a constant and deeply loved presence throughout their lives.

She spent many years as a caretaker and her compassion extended to animals. In her later years she helped rescue dogs and gave them an amazing life. She will be remembered for her strength and the love she had for her family.

Family and friends are invited to Bernies Celebration of life on Wednesday, September 9th from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM at 105 S Riverside Dr, New Smyrna Beach, FL.

In lieu of flowers we ask that guests make a small donation to the Florida Pointer Rescue. Bernie loved and adopted so many dogs from this rescue and we feel it is the best way to honor her.
