Bernice Hunsinger of The Villages, Florida passed away peacefully January 12, 2019 with family by her side.  She was born November 17, 1912.  She was formerly from Ohio and a part-time resident of Venice, Florida for 38 years until the death of her husband of 62 years, Carl Hunsinger.  Born to Ira and Mary Alice Beatty, she was educated in Jackson County, Ohio schools and the Interstate College of Business.

She and her husband lived in Pickaway County, Ohio where they owned land and were lifetime devotees to the principles of soil and water conservation organizations.  They were active in securing the designation of Big Darby River as a national and state scenic river which bordered their land. She was associated with the County Soil Conservation Service for several years, then with the Ohio Department of Education, retiring in 1984.

The couple also managed land in Jackson County and were committed to the principles of forestry.  A primary consideration was given to the concept of trees as a renewable resource.  Endless efforts were fought to save them.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Bob Kister with whom she made her last home in The Villages, FL.; two grandsons – Scott (Stella) Kister of Los Altos Hills, CA, and Chad Kister, Nelsonville, OH; and three great-granddaughters—Zoe, Kara and Mia; three brothers – Roger Beatty, Wellston, OH; Don Beatty, Dublin, OH; and Dr. Bernard Beatty, Winston Salem, NC.

Bernice was known for her amazing intellect that was still strong at age 106.  She was an avid reader, possessed an unusual curiosity about the world, and enjoyed challenging conversations.  In addition to her environmental advocacy, she rescued many dogs and cats and supported humane society causes.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Baldwin Memorial Care Service.  The family is grateful to Cornerstone Hospice for compassionate, caring service. There will be a family gathering in Ohio at a later date.
