Bernice Massel, 93 of New Smyrna Beach, FL died January 1, 2014. She was born to the late Lofton and Amelia Mixon on January 29, 1920, and was the last surviving sibling from their union. She and Jerome Massel (deceased) were blessed to have shared 69 years of marriage. Bernice moved to Miami from Dublin, GA in 1935. Graduated from Miami High School and opened her own ice cream shop in Downtown Miami in 1941. During WWII she worked in Washington DC supporting the war effort. After WWII she returned to Miami were she became a realtor, working in and around the Miami area, while continually supporting charitable activities through the American Legion. Bernice is survived by her son Edward Massel and his wife Jeanne, grandchildren Eddie Massel and Laura Massel-Kaiser, Great-Grandchildren Jason Massel and wife Melissa, Jordan Kaiser, and Great-Great Grandson Logan Massel. Life Celebration will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 29 at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach FL.
