Bertha Louise Damstra, born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on December 5, 1934, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024.
Bertha was a devoted wife to her late husband, James David Damstra, whom she married on October 25, 1952. She worked as a personnel manager for Sears & Roebuck and later as an office manager for Beacon Optometry. Her professional life was marked by dedication and leadership.
A woman of immense creativity and passion, Bertha was an artist at heart. She loved painting and never shied away from trying her hand at new crafts. Her welcoming spirit made her quick to embrace new friends, always with a warm smile and a clever quip.
Bertha was deeply involved in her church community in Massachusetts. After moving to Pennbroke Fairways in Florida, where she and James resided for over 20 years, she continued leading an active and fulfilling life. In recent years, Bertha enjoyed her time as a resident at The Cove in Tavares Village, where she was cherished by those around her.
She is survived by her son David Damstra and his spouse Sandra Verlicco, daughter, Sharon Fredericks and her spouse William Fredericks, daughter Carol Feeley; Grandchildren: Amanda Lister, Kevin Damstra, Candace Zahnzinger, Sonja Hanna, Joe Damstra, James Weare, Steven Weare; Brothers Joe Lawrence, and Calvin Lawrence. Bertha also leaves behind great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought joy to her life.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband James Damstra, daughter Linda Damstra, brother Ned Lawrence, sister Nancy Roffee.
A service will be held on September 18th, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Cornerstone Hospice or The American Cancer Society .
Bertha's memory will be carried on by her family and friends as a loving, artistic, and welcoming woman who found beauty in everything she touched.
