Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Betty (DeDe) Daniels, 81, announces her passing on May 3, 2024.

De was born and raised in New York City. As a young child De appeared on the Star Time Kids TV show. De attended George Washington High School in New York, NY, where she was a member of the New York All-City High School Chorus and performed at Carnegie Hall with conductor Dr. Peter Wilhouski. After high school De trained to become an opera singer. De was a US Merchant Mariner under the US Coast Guard, Port of New York, NY, and was part of the USO.

De was preceded in death by her mother and father Edith and Leon Thomas Daniels.

De moved to Goshen, NY, in 1973, where she raised her two sons. There, she was closely involved in the school system and her sons' many activities. Along with others, De was involved in charities supported by Tom Jones. De was involved with Rolling Thunder, Chapter 3, volunteer work, supported US military veterans, the work of American Gold Star Mothers, and was also a substitute 911 operator. De enjoyed spending time with family, going on day cruises and to Atlantic City with friends, was involved in her community, loved to help others, and made friends wherever she went.

De made the choice to move from New York to Florida in 2014, where she continued with Rolling Thunder, Chapter 8, became president and was involved with the VVA, the Daytona veterans court, among others in support of veterans. De was part of the KnitWits group, knitting and crocheting, and was an election worker at the polls for many years, both in New York and Florida.

De is survived by her brother Leon Daniels Jr and his wife Margie; her two children, Mario Porco and his wife Judy of Goshen, NY, and Marco Porco and his wife Joyce of South Daytona, FL. De is also survived by her grandchild, Sarah Porco and her fiancé Kain Kipp, and her step-grandchildren, Cassandra Bush and her husband Cory, and Mikey Joannides, Heather Hilson and Amber Wolbert and her fiancé Rick Peters, and her step-great-grandchildren, Noah and Elaina Bush, and Isabella Peters. De's laughter and energy will live on in their hearts and memories.

De's support and love has touched many lives. She will forever be remembered and missed by all.

A memorial service will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 7th, 2024, at the VFW James W. Dearborn Memorial Post #3282 in Port Orange, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rolling Thunder Florida, Chapter 8, at www.rollingthunderfl8.com , or can be made to American Gold Star Mothers and mailed to Vivian Allen, 12 Price Road, Chester, NY 10918.

Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.baldwincremation.com/port-orange .

So it's the laughter we will remember whenever we remember the way we were.
