Obituary

Beverly Mondloch passed away peacefully after a short illness on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the age of 71. She was living at the time in the Daytona Health and Rehab in Daytona Beach, Fl.

Bev was born Beverly Ann Koogle on September 7, 1954, in Baltimore, MD to Doris and Kiefer Koogle.

She was married to her husband Tom Mondloch for 48 years and had two sons, Aaron and Joshua. She loved being a spouse and mother and cooking was an important way she expressed her love. She could whip up a wonderful dinner from the contents of an empty refrigerator. Bev had an infectious love for life, Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, a dry Cabernet, playing cards and board games, music ranging from Andrea Bocelli to James Brown, vacationing at Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland, playing and watching lacrosse, and of course her family of three brothers and three sisters, as well as many friends.

Bev was a person of strong faith and was active in many church congregations over the years. Her faith was never more important than when she endured the tragic loss of her oldest son, Aaron, in 1999. Her faith also led her to serve in a volunteer and faith-based community of young adults for one year helping the needy just after she graduated from college.

She loved to travel. An infamous family story involved a 30-day train trip when the boys were pre-teens. Disaster struck early when we missed our connecting train heading for Chicago. While the rest of the family was in a panic, Bev calmly arranged a flight for the four of us to intercept our westward bound locomotive in Pittsburgh and the remainder of the trip continues as a highlight of our family history.

Bev had a calling to help children in her work as a speech therapist. Her undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology was from James Madison University, and she earned a graduate degree from Loyola University. She was highly regarded by her peers, particularly in treating feeding and swallowing disorders. She was a true team player, and her coworkers frequently became family friends.

A type 1 diabetic for over 50 years, Bev never let her physical limitations define her. She adapted to new technology, including being an early adopter of the insulin pump and related diabetic medical devices.

Bev brought enthusiasm and hopefulness to each new day, even as her health declined and she required 24/7 nursing assistance. Following her move to the rehab, and with vascular dementia advancing, Bev would tell family and friends how she was in fact on the staff of the rehab as a speech therapist (not a resident) and would then provide a quick overview of her “caseload” of rehab residents.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Mondloch (Ormond Beach, Fl.), son Joshua Mondloch (San Diego, CA) his wife Stepahanie Mondloch, her three children Hunter, Kacie and Grayson, mother Doris Hesse Koogle (Daytona Beach, Fl), sisters Barbara Koogle Schulman (Oxnard CA and Ormond Beach, Fl) and Kim Perkins (Ormond Beach, Fl.), as well as brother Tom Koogle (Baltimore, MD).. Also surviving are brother-in-law Ron Perkins and sisters-in-law Terry Koogle, Tricia Koogle and Jane Koogle as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her son, Aaron Mondloch, father, Kiefer Koogle, brothers Warren Koogle and Kip Koogle and brother-in law Joseph Schulman.

A Celebration of Life memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11am at the Daytona Memorial Park in Daytona Beach, Fl.

Donations in Bev’s memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association/?form=Donate">American Diabetes Association and/or Mondloch House (3510 Lockheed Blvd., Alexandria, Va 22306).
