Bob was laid to rest March 12, 2020 in the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery

Bob was a loving husband and wonderful father. He loved his children and the Lord. He is resting with his Heavenly Father and we will see him again one day…

Loving husband to Kathy Sorensen Gilland for 48 years

He is survived by:

Daughter, Sherri Lynn Gimmi (Rick) of Washington State

Son, Alvin Lee Gilland (Tiffany) of Orlando, Florida

Granddaughters: Heather Lane (Travis) and Tiffany Ioimo (Brett) of Washington State

Great Grandchildren: Kaniel, Natalie, Truman, Maddux, Walker

Great great grandson: Jordan

And lots of nieces and nephews.

Bob grew up in Carrsville, Kentucky, a small town on the Ohio River and graduated from Salem High School. He loved his hometown and had many friends and lots of family there. He spent many hours hunting and fishing. After graduation, he sometimes worked with his Dad in the fluorspar mines of Kentucky and worked one summer on the barges that traveled up and down the Ohio River before enlisting in the US Air Force. Bob served proudly in the US Air Force (Korea) 1954-1958. He worked for the National Security Agency as a Radio Intercept Operator in Misawa, Japan.

Bob worked various jobs upon returning to the United States. He worked for the Orlando Sentinel as District Adviser for the Central Florida area, the Tampa Tribune Newspaper as District Adviser then went into the Carpenters and Lathers Local Union and worked for Buena Vista Construction Company at Disney.

Bob loved fishing and spent many days camping and salt water fishing at Captiva Pass and Pine Island in Red Fish Pass. He loved playing golf with his Dad, brothers and son. They played many golf courses in Florida and in tournaments at his church Eastside Baptist, now Oasis at Conway Gardens. He loved his church family and they, him. He and Kathy spent lots of time in Tennessee visiting her family and was dearly loved by all of them. Although traveling became difficult at times, he was always ready to go. I will miss my sweet husband, and his little Yorkie, Buddy, will too.
