Bret Leaston Norris, 38, died suddenly at home on Tuesday. A lifelong resident of the New Smyrna Beach-Edgewater area, Bret had a passion for surfing, skateboarding, gardening, fishing, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He loved to help, whether it was mowing one sister's lawn or changing the other's flat tire, Bret tried to meet a need when he saw it. He was an avid reader and science fiction enthusiast. Bret is survived by his father, Buddy (Laurie) Norris, mother, Eve (Jim) Thomas; sisters Ann Norris Russo and Lea (Mike) Bartos; nieces and nephews Andrew and Savannah Weaver, Brendan Russo, Sara, Kraig and Gage Bartos. A memorial will be held Friday, July 26 at 4pm at Bella Vista Baptist Church in Edgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bella Vista Baptist Church.
