Buford Eugene Stanley (Gene), 90, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Dunedin, Florida. Born June 18, 1935, in Miston, Tennessee, he was the eldest of 11 children. Gene spent over 30 years at U.S. Steel's Sheet and Tin Mill in Gary, Indiana, and later retired to Dunedin, Florida. A man of many talents, he loved playing guitar, bowling in leagues at Ray's Lanes, square dancing, coaching Portage Little League, and flying private planes. He was also a proud member of the Portage JC's. Gene and his wife, Sandy, cherished traveling in their motorhome, visiting loved ones, and attending bluegrass festivals. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Stanley; son, Earl Stanley; daughters, Lawanna Hurst and Sheryl Langley; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Gene on July 18, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, 6225 Lute Road, Portage, Indiana from 11:00 am-3:00 pm
