South Seaside Park, N.J./Ft Myers FL – Captain Earl R. Gelnaw, Age 89. Born 1929 in Closter, N.J. set sail on his final voyage on March 8, 2018. As a young man he proudly served in WW II with The U.S. Merchant Marine. Captain Earl enjoyed a long life and had much success as a General Contractor, Real Estate Investor, and Businessman. He was the owner operator of the Wheelhouse Marina in South Seaside Park N.J. Perhaps best known as the Captain of the popular tour boat , The Bay Cruiser, with an endless supply of Salty jokes, Sea Stories and his rendition of Popeye the Sailorman was unforgettable. He will never be forgotten by anyone who knew him. He was a private pilot and logged many hours flying. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Shirley Gelnaw and his 6 children. Earl Gelnaw Jr, Jeffrey Gelnaw , Gregory Gelnaw, Shirley Mathis, Laurie Bitterli, and Bonnie Ferrell. Also survived by many Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren. At his request there will be no services.
