Carl Edward Gross, age 84, of Silver Springs, Florida, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023, at hospice in Ocala, Florida.  Carl was born on October 21, 1938, to his parents, Nellie (Ester) Gross and Carl Valentine Gross in Peru, Indiana.  He was a social, active man who was deeply involved in running, biking and other outdoor activities for the majority of his life. He enjoyed running in marathons, 50-mile and extreme 100-mile ultra-runs through mountains, and also bike races and occasionally, white-water rafting.  His family and friends will always remember him as a competitive, goal-oriented person.

Carl is survived by his former wife, Sue Ann (Lambert) Gross of San Antonio, Texas; children, Carl Allen Gross, of Katy, Texas, and Steven Brian Gross, of Silver Springs, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his long-time companion, Karen L. Conway, of Sebring, Florida.

Funeral services will be held on September 8, 2023 at 10:00am, at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in Ocala, Florida, and burial at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.  Donations in memory of Carl can be made to Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in Ocala, Florida, or to St. Joseph of the Forest Mission in Silver Springs, Florida.
