Obituary

On Saturday morning, 24 October, 2026, in Ocala, Florida, Carol Shavers was attended by many of her family members when she went to be with her Lord and Savior. Her illness was sudden and brief, and the calmness and quietness of her passing reflected the manner in which she faced all challenges in her long, blessed life. She was devoted to a Christian life and was happiest when she was with her family.

Carol Ann Walker was born in Birmingham, Alabama on 26 July, 1941, daughter of Lamar George and Ann Marie (Jeffery) Walker. She married Wm. Glenn Shavers on 28 October, 1960. They embarked on a life together with homes in Birmingham and in Pinellas County, Florida, with travels to many places including the Holy Land, Hawaii, and Alaska. Her activities focused on participation in church life, ministry (with a particular interest in children), and decades of community service through Meals on Wheels, blood donations, and other activities.

Carol’s private life centered on her family––Glenn and her children, Barry (Janel), Carl (Shirley), and Mark (Zarana); nine grandchildren, and three (so far) great-grandchildren. She was not survived by her five siblings, but dearly loved by the Walkers who she left behind, including Judy (Burt), Lisa, and Wendy. She enjoyed travel with Glenn, adventures with her sons, loving the little ones as they come along and grow, and the sweetness that only a life of humility enjoys.

Her peaceful life, and her devotion to Christian love and the care of all others before herself, preceded her eternal, peaceful rest. Memorial Services will be held at Starkey Road Baptist Church on 14 November, 2026 with Visitation from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, and Service at 11:00 am. A short prayer and inurnment will be held afterwards at Cornerstone Free Methodist Church at 1:30 pm. Memorial contributions to Hospice Care are suggested in lieu of flowers.
