Obituary

Carol Ann Whetzel (née Schmitt), age 89 of Orlando, FL., a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, leaving behind a family who will carry her memory forward in countless ways.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Whetzel, parents William Rockhill Schmitt and Anna Maria Francesca Schmitt (née Ottaviano), and brother William Conrad Schmitt. She is survived by her three children: Robert Whetzel and his wife, Michele; Cheryl Moralez and her husband, Daniel; and Patricia Whetzel and her wife, Tricia. She was Grandma to Alexandra Whetzel and Michael Whetzel, the children of Robert and Michele.

Carol had a curious mind and a deep appreciation for the quiet pleasures of life. She was an avid reader with a particular fondness for British mysteries, the kind of books that could keep her turning pages long after everyone else had gone to sleep. She also devoted herself to studying Mandarin Chinese, embracing the challenge of learning something new simply because it interested her. Her curiosity, independence, and love of learning were enduring parts of who she was. Her chihuahuas also brought Carol tremendous happiness and companionship.

Carol’s absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. Yet her life remains present in the people she loved, the lessons she shared, the stories she read, and the memories her family will continue to tell. She was Mom, Grandma, and so much more. She will be deeply missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
