Carole Jean Broderick, 83, of Valparaiso, Indiana, died surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

 She was born April 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Bowman.

 Carole grew up on the south side of Chicago and graduated from the Academy of Our Lady.

She raised five children while driving a bus for the Valparaiso Public Schools and working as a secretary at St. Paul's Catholic School.

Carole was happiest exploring Ireland with family and friends, knitting stylish sweaters, volunteering on political campaigns for a better Porter County, playing bunco and canasta, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Broderick. Carole is survived by her children Mary White (husband Jim), Bob Casto (wife Aimee Tomasek), Carole Casto (husband Bill Barnhorst), Mike Casto (wife Becky), and John Broderick; her grandchildren Alex White, Nick White, Thomas Dees, Fiona Dees, Ava Dees, Giovanni Casto, Rose Casto, and Leo Barnhorst; and her great-granddaughter, Robin White.

Carole's family will host a private celebration of life with close friends and family later this month.
