Obituary

Carolyn Augusta Canova Boltin

Carolyn Boltin, age 89, went home to her Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 19, 2026. Carolyn was born at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville, FL on October 17, 1936, to Frank Allan Canova & Ella Mae Long Canova. Carolyn graduated from Gainesville High School (where she was a majorette for the GHS Purple Hurricanes) then headed off to Florida State University where she was a proud sister in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After meeting the love of her life, William G. “Billy” Boltin, III, Carolyn wasted no time transferring to the University of Florida, marrying Billy and going to work for Dr. George T. Harrell, the first Dean of the University of Florida Medical School.

Working for Dean Harrell was a natural fit for Carolyn. He was a friend of Carolyn’s father who was a pharmacist and the owner of Canova Drug Store on Main St. in Gainesville. Moreover, Carolyn was just the southern magnolia Dean Harrell needed to act as local tour guide while he recruited new faculty. The drug store’s soda fountain also tracks with Carolyn’s life-long love for ice cream.

After Billy finished law school, Carolyn and Billy moved to Orlando to begin Billy’s career and to start their family. Carolyn cherished raising her girls exploring the Overbrook Creek in College Park, the wide beaches of New Smyrna Beach and the sandy banks of Lake Down in Windermere.

Carolyn and Billy shared not only a love affair but a deep and trusted friendship. In a small law firm, it was a big deal for Billy to lose his bookkeeper. Carolyn jumped in to help while Billy searched to fill that important role. Fifteen years later…Carolyn retired from her “temporary assignment” only after Billy decided to close his office and join a large firm. Carolyn would smile slyly when sharing it was better to be paid in travel and jewelry than to take a salary. Their’s was a forever bond.

In addition to her devotion to her God, family and friends, Carolyn’s true ministry may have been as an activist in her own right. A three-time breast cancer survivor, Carolyn was tireless in fully and lovingly supporting those impacted by the disease. She did it all in full makeup and perfectly coiffed because she firmly believed showing up “fully dressed” made everyone feel better.

Carolyn was a community steward with active memberships in The Junior League of Greater Orlando, The Rosalind Club of Orlando (over 30 years), The Country Club of Orlando (over 50 years) and St. Michael’s Episcopal Church (over 50 years).

Carolyn and Billy were born in the same hospital and enjoyed 64 years of marriage until Billy’s death in 2021. Carolyn and Billy shared a passion for travel. One such “adventure” was in 1968 when their flight from Puerto Rico was hijacked to Cuba. Despite this misadventure, they continued traveling the world with friends. They also loved sharing their North GA cabin affectionately known as “Moody Hollow.” Their life together was a great adventure.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn is predeceased by her sister, Mary Anne Canova Howard.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Temple Boltin Anderson (Michael) of Windermere, FL and Carolyn Boltin Teeter (Joseph) of Alpharetta, GA, grandchildren, Katherine “Katie” Trumbo Newberg (Todd) of Orlando, FL, Boltin Charles Teeter (Eloise) of Atlanta, GA and Charlotte Teeter Masters (Cody) of Lubbock, TX, great grandchildren, Francine “Frannie” Carolyn Newberg and Philip “Pip” Harvey Newberg of Orlando, FL.

A Private Service will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in Carolyn Boltin’s memory to: St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 2499 N. Westmoreland Dr., Orlando, FL 32804. Arrangements are under the direction of Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Society, Orlando, FL.
