Obituary

After an amazing, full life, Sarah Carolyn Morgan-Appelt, lately of New Smyrna Beach, FL, returned to the stars on December 11, 2023. Carolyn was born in Graham, Texas, to the late Fern and Ralph Morgan.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Kirstin, and son-in-law, Dave. She is also survived by her dear cousin Tommy and his family as well as her "friemily" – her term for "friends who are family". In addition to being the best mother to her daughter, Carolyn was a surrogate mother to many of her daughter's friends. She is greatly loved and profoundly missed.

Carolyn was a life-long adventurer who lived in seven states and two countries. She traveled extensively, including long visits to her daughter in British Columbia, family car and bus trips across Europe, treks in the Himalayas, safaris in Africa, and cruises in various oceans, seas, and rivers. Memories of her trips filled every room in her beautiful home.

Carolyn was passionate about education. As a teacher and professor, she cared deeply about her students and colleagues. Her enthusiasm for learning was infectious and she convinced many to learn alongside her as she explored courses, devoured books, and wrote stories.

Carolyn was also an animal lover. In addition to her own series of cherished pet cats, dogs, fish, and rooster, she loved strays and wild animals. In honour of her love of nature, Carolyn's ashes will be scattered this summer beside a beautiful mountain lake.

If you would like to remember Carolyn, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter, making a donation to Halifax Hospice Care's Port Orange Care Center ( https://halifaxhealth.org/hospice-donation-portal/ ), or simply petting the next cat you see.
