Cathy was a great person. She was dearly loved and is survived by her husband Dick, children Jennifer, Timothy and Allison – their significant others – Shannon, Julie and Matt and 5 grandchildren – Jack, Jonas, Quinn, Max and Roslyn. Her sisters Teresa and Moreen, their families and countless friends and chosen family, also cherished her.

If you knew her than you knew how funny, clever, generous, brave and inspirational she was. If you didn't then know that she would still want the best for you and expect you to rise to it.

She survived and thrived with Scleroderma for 15 years – many years past her expected course with the disease.

She taught reading for 30 years in multiple states and school districts. She created a legacy of over 10,000 confident readers including her own grandchildren. She also taught and inspired many emerging teachers.

Cathryn Ann Whalen (nee Jones) was born in December 1946 in Syracuse New York, attended Oswego State College and received her Masters in Education at the University of Colorado. She passed peacefully Friday June 10, 2022 in Sarasota Florida with her husband at her side, as was her wish.

The family is very grateful for the love and support they have received through this time.
