IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlene
Rhodes
November 7, 1945 – February 9, 2026
Charlene Rhodes, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on February 9, 2026. First and foremost a devoted mother and nana, her most treasured titles, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family. She was also a cherished sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth touched countless lives. Born in Peabody, Massachusetts on November 7, 1945, she grew up surrounded by her 12 siblings before moving to the Florida Keys at the age of 17. Florida became her lifelong home, where she built a life rooted in family and friendship.
She worked in local school cafeterias for 28 years, choosing this career so she could be on the same schedule as her daughter, Bonnie, while growing up, allowing her to focus on being the loving, present mother she always wanted to be. After retiring, she continued to give back by volunteering in her daughter’s classroom and grandson, Raiden’s elementary classrooms, always finding joy in supporting children’s growth and learning.
Family was the center of her world. She was deeply involved in every part of her grandson’s life, from cooking and baking with him when he was young, attending every school play and event, and beaming with pride as she watched him walk across the stage at graduation. She cherished the simple moments spent with her daughter, whether sitting at the beach, walking the Halifax River pier, or exploring new coffee shops together. They loved sharing a cup of coffee, and often treated themselves to sweet indulgences too, making those outings even more special. She often traveled back to Massachusetts to visit her large extended family, spending cherished time with her sisters and countless nieces and nephews. She especially loved staying at her sister Dottie’s house for extended visits, where the closeness of family filled her days with laughter, stories, and comfort. Those trips remained some of her most treasured memories.
She had countless friends throughout the years and treasured their companionship. Weekly shopping trips and dinner outings with them were a highlight of her life, bringing laughter, joy, and connection that she held dear. Among them was her very special friend, Sandy, whose friendship of nearly 40 years felt more like sisterhood and brought her immeasurable joy.
She was a kind-hearted woman who gave generously to others, often donating to help those in need. Her compassion extended beyond her family, touching countless lives.
A lifelong sports fan, she had a special love for the Boston Red Sox. She was beyond excited when her son-in-law, Andrew, surprised her with tickets to a game, allowing her to check it off her bucket list while enjoying that unforgettable day with her daughter, grandson, and son-in-law. She also enjoyed watching football, especially when the New England Patriots were playing and called her sister, Dottie, whenever they scored.
She will be remembered as a woman of warmth, generosity, and unwavering love, a mother and nana first, but also a sister, aunt, and friend whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
