IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles W.
Gunderson
September 26, 1927 – February 22, 2025
It is with both deep sorrow and immense gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Charles W. Gunderson. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2025, in Watertown, New York, at the age of 97.
Charles was preceded in death by Dorothy, his beloved wife of 56 years; his parents, Mildred and Rudolph; and his sister, Margaret MacKenzie. The reunion on the other side must have been joyful.
He is survived by his sister, Mari MacGregor; his children, David (Tracy) Gunderson and Mari Jo Coles; his cherished grandchildren, Kristen (Brett) Cataldi, Morgan (Cole) Paradise, Leisel (Ryan) Krzykowski, Sophia (Joseph) Medico and Hayden Coles; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Jett and Colt Cataldi, Sawyer and Walker Paradise, and Leo Medico.
Born in Kenyon, Minnesota, on September 26, 1927, Charles was a man of honor, integrity, and quiet strength. A proud veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, he served his country with dignity as a member of the United States Navy. His life was a true testament to service—whether to his nation, his family, or his community.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota and living a bachelors life, fate stepped in when he met the love of his life, Dorothy (née Landry), at Milwaukee Insurance. Together, they built not only a beautiful marriage but a legacy of hard work, laughter, and enduring love. Charles retired after 30 dedicated years as Senior Vice President of Finance, but his life's work was never defined solely by his career. His greatest joy came from his role as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
As avid golfers, Charles and Dorothy could often be found on the course, enjoying the sunshine and the camaraderie of great friends. But more than anything, they treasured time with family. After retirement, he and Dorothy created countless memories traveling with loved ones—a chapter of their life filled with joy, adventure, and stories we'll be telling for generations.
To know Charles was to know a man of principle and warmth. He was deeply loved, and he leaves behind a family that is stronger and better because of his quiet guidance and unwavering love.
A celebration of Charles' life will be held in Wisconsin during the summer of 2025.
Together forever, Poppy and GG. Your legacy lives on in all of us.
