Obituary

Harrison, Charles Robert- Robert Harrison passed away on April 24, 2011 at Oceanview Nursing Home. Robert was born April 19, 1928 in Shreveport, LA, to his beloved parents, Bessie Faye (Kelly) and Clyde Harrison. He served in the Marine Corp. from 1946-1949, and graduated from Northwestern University in 1956. Job opportunities took him to Ohio, where he met and married the love of his life, Doris I. Dewey, and raised  three daughters. In 1972 he moved his family to Sanford, Fl, joining several other relatives on both sides of the family in making Florida their home. One of his proudest jobs ever was in Sanford, being in on the exciting inception of Auto Train, where he worked for several years. In the early 80's he and Doris achieved their dream of moving to their beloved New Smyrna Beach. Robert loved the  beach, fishing, working in the yard and spending time with family and friends. He loved John Wayne movies, Elvis, Hank Williams and "Lonesome Dove".  Spritual endevors were a big part of his later life, along with the Bible he treasured and benefited greatly from the works of Wayne Dyer and Paramahansa Yoganada. These were especially helpful in times of tragedy, as he cared for his wife through her death from cancer in 1989, and then cared for his mother when she developed Alzhiemers and passed away in 2002.  Robert faced his greatest challenge when his health  began to fail and he was, in succession, treated for Alzhiemers, Parkinson's and finally cancer himself.  With the support of his family and faith, he faced his devastating illnesses with perseverence, graciousness, gratitude, and always a sense of humor.  In finding love to be the greatest treasure and asset in life, he successfully completed the lessons and trials of this lifetime and has moved on to the next, with his heart brightened, lightened and open.  He leaves behind to cherish him in memory, daughters, Michele Hekkel (Mike), Elizabeth Harrison, Roberta Annett (Bruce) and grandchildren, Megan McCormick, Morgan Hekkel, Dustin and Joshua Annett, and many beloved cousins and neighbors. No service will be held at Roberts wishes, pay your respects to the sunrise, go fishing or watch "Lonesome Dove".     Condolences may be shared with the family at www.baldwinCremation.com. In leiu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made to any Parkinson's, Alzhiemers or Cancer foundation.
