IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles
Mrowca
June 6, 1943 – April 17, 2025
Charles "Chuck" Mrowca, age 81, passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2025, near his home in Florida after a battle with gallbladder and liver cancer. Born on June 6th, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Chuck lived a life marked by devotion—to his faith, his family, and his community.
The eldest of eleven children born to Charles and Bernice Mrowca, Chuck grew up in a poor area in the suburbs of Detroit where he experienced a hard life at an early age. At just twelve years old, he began working at a local grocery store to help support his family. His siblings praise him for the ways in which he cared for their family and the parent like roll he took on.
In September 1966, while serving in the Air Force in Maine, Chuck met Elise during a double blind date. Though they were initially paired with others that evening, their meeting was guided by divine providence. Within a couple months they were engaged and married by February—a union that would span more than fifty-eight years and be rooted in unwavering devotion and shared faith.
Following their wedding, Chuck and Elise moved to Michigan where he served at another Air Force station. After the birth of their first daughter, they returned to Maine, it was there that Chuck started his career with Sappi as a printing system specialist. His work took him on many travels and earned him recognition as a million-mile traveler.
In 2009, Chuck and Elise embraced the snowbird lifestyle, dividing their time between Maine and their home in Hawthorne at Leesburg, Florida. Many friends from Galilee Baptist followed in their move to Florida and live in Hawthorne today.
In Florida Chuck was a very active part of the community, he participated in Bible studies, served on the board, acted in plays, delivered meals through Meals on Wheels, volunteered preparing taxes for others, served at the church thrift store, attended dances, and immersed himself in activities that peaked his interest and reflected his generous heart. He attended First Baptist of Leesburg and worshipped at Galilee Baptist and most recently Christ Fellowship Church upon returning to Maine.
Chuck is described as a doting grandfather and adored his grandchildren. This was perhaps his favorite title. The family would frequently enjoy special meals that he and Elise lovingly prepared to gather everyone together. His presence will be missed by them greatly.
Chuck leaves behind his loving family: daughter Susan Brahms and her husband David; granddaughter Julia; grandson Harrison; daughter Kate Chick and her husband Tim; granddaughter Lydia Lane and her husband Parker; great-granddaughter Laurel; another great-granddaughter soon on the way; grandson Ethan Chick and his wife Kate.
Above all else, Chuck's life was anchored by steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. Despite enduring chronic pain for much of his life, he remained faithful until the end. His family finds peace knowing he is now fully free from suffering and rejoicing eternally in heaven with his Savior.
Chuck's life was one of quiet strength, deep conviction, and enduring love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
