Charles (Chuck) E. Risch, age 81, born into Eternal Life on March 6, 2026. Beloved husband to Mary (née Bazanski) for 56 years. Loving father to Brian (Meghan) and Eric (Wendy) Risch. Proud Papa to Molly, Emma and Gibson. Beloved son of the late Carl and Betty (Renner) Risch. Brother to Anna Marie Marsh, and the late Paul (Marlene Hawkinson) and Victor (Hazel) Risch. Affectionately known as “Fun Uncle Chuck” to Andy (Molly) Risch, Ann (Todd) Kafka, Carl (Connie) Risch, Danette (Todd) Goen, Joe (Angie) Marsh, Leah (Matt) Jones, Sabrina Angrick, and great-uncle to 14 nieces and nephews.

Chuck earned his undergraduate degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and later pursued graduate studies at the University of Michigan (U of M). While attending U of M, he worked for Chrysler Corporation for four years, gaining early experience in the automotive industry. He went on to build a distinguished career with Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI where he dedicated more than three decades of service and played a key role in the development of alternative fuel technologies that helped shape the company’s early efforts in what has since evolved into Ford’s electric vehicle program. Following his retirement from Ford, Chuck continued contributing his expertise as an alternative fuels researcher with Argonne National Laboratory.

Chuck was deeply committed to the community of Grosse Ile, MI. He was actively involved with the Grosse Ile Lions Club, the Downriver Water Ski Club, and the Jaycees—organizations through which he supported local initiatives, built lifelong friendships, and strengthened the island’s spirit of volunteerism. Passionate about supporting young adults, Chuck proudly supported the Eye of the Storm Teen Foundation, reflecting his belief in mentoring and empowering the next generation. His love of waterskiing also led him to assist with local waterski clinics, where he encouraged and mentored new skiers. Through these efforts—and his natural warmth and generosity—he left a lasting impact on the Grosse Ile community and the many people who were fortunate enough to know him.

His support for others was never about recognition – it was purely who he was. He cared deeply about the people around him and believed that small acts of kindness and generosity make a lasting difference. From supporting community initiatives to offering guidance and friendship to those who needed it, Chuck had a way of bringing people together

Moving from Grosse Ile to Miromar Lakes, FL allowed him to continue enjoying life on the water and the active, outdoor lifestyle he loved year-round while forming many new friendships within the community. On June 27, 2004, his life changed following a waterskiing accident which ultimately limited his mobility, and he became a 21-year wheelchair user. Yet the years that followed continued to reflect the character that defined him. The life Chuck led both before and after that moment was one of faith, service, kindness, and remarkable strength.
