Obituary

Mrs. Cherie Ann Hopson (née Baugh), age 82, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Fort Myers, Florida surrounded by her family.

Born on July 25, 1942, in Saint Louis, Missouri, Cherie was the beloved daughter of Clarence John Baugh and Lorraine (Lawrence) Baugh. She spent her formative years in St. Louis, where she graduated from Holy Innocents School in 1956 and Southwest High School in 1960. Her passion for learning led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University), graduating in 1966. During her college years, she was a proud member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and it was there that she met the love of her life, John E. Hopson. Following college, she taught school at Cleveland High School in St. Louis prior to her favorite job as MOM.

Cherie and John were married on November 27, 1965, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Louis. Together they built a life rooted in love and shared values, raising their family in St. Louis for three decades before retiring to southwest Florida in 1995.

Cherie's devotion to her family was unwavering. She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, John E. Hopson; their daughter Jennifer Bauer and her husband Jason of Jefferson City, MO; their son Michael Hopson and his wife Courtney of Aspen, CO; and five cherished grandchildren: Blake Bauer, Burke Bauer, Haylie Hopson, Kennedy Hopson, and Porter Hopson. She is also survived by her brother John Baugh, his significant other, Judy Smith of St. Louis, MO and her sister in law, Arlis Rischar of Cordele, GA.

Throughout her life, Cherie embraced every opportunity to connect with others. Whether through long phone conversations or friendly games of bridge or mahjong, she brought warmth and joy to those around her. An avid tennis and golf enthusiast, she found great pleasure both on the court and the course—always with a smile and often with friends by her side.

Cherie's Catholic faith remained an important part of her life from childhood through retirement. Her kindness and openness touched many lives; she truly knew no stranger.

May Cherie's memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. Memorial contributions suggested to Our Little Haven in St. Louis, MO or organization of your choice.
