Ms. Christie O'Brien, Age 62, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed away January 25, 2019, peacefully at home with her wife and family. She was born in Sistersville, West Virginia to Lois Henderson O'Brien and Keith O'Brien on March 9, 1956. She graduated Parkersburg High School and received her Bachelors and Masters in Social Work from the University of West Virginia. Christie and Ingrid Ives married on August 29, 2013 in Washington, D.C. They have been lovingly devoted to each other for 32 years. Ms. O'Brien had a distinguished career for 26 years with Disability Rights of Florida, formerly The Advocacy Center, where she diligently advocated for individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness. Her previous career spanned ten years with the State of Florida helping bring Viet Nam refugee children into foster care, casework with delinquent youth and subsequently investigation of and working at the centralized hotline for abuse and neglect. She is survived by her siblings, Cherrie Stanley, Fred O'Brien, Pat Antoline of Parkersburg West Virginia and Brian O'Brien of Houston, Texas. She also leaves her loving nieces and nephews, Jamie O'Brien, Michelle Allen, Doug Stanley, Keith Stanley, Jeff Antoline and is predeceased by Crystal Hanna. A service will be held at the Baldwin Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach, FI. on February 1 2019 at 3:00 pm. Following the service all are welcome to come by the Half Wall on SR 44 for libation, food, sharing tales and memories.
