Clara Del
Maestro
January 28, 1926 – November 26, 2021
Clara Ferrari was born in the town of Bertorella Italy on January 28, 1926. In 1948, she married Valentino Del Maestro and after her son Fausto was born, they emigrated to America. There, they lived in Astoria, New York for most of their lives. During that time, they made several trips to Italy to visit family. Once her children were old enough, Clara went to work in Manhattan as a seamstress. She worked as a sample maker for a number of New York fashion designers. She was very talented and when her daughter, Wilma, got married, she made her wedding gown along with all of the bridesmaids' gowns. Clara also made her own mother-of the bride dress.
In the 1980's, Valentino and Clara purchased a home and moved to Sound Beach, Long Island. Valentino passed away from heart disease in October 1987. Clara continued to work using her talents as a seamstress by teaching sewing and crafts at the local senior center. She retired at the age of 86, when she moved to Ormond Beach Florida to be near her daughter and son-in-law. Clara made many friends in Ormond Beach and loved going to the Silver Sneakers classes at Golds Gym. At the age of 93, she decided to move to Ormond in the Pines Independent Living as the day-to-day chores of living alone we're getting more difficult to manage. After a fall where she broke 4 ribs, she moved to the Assisted Living section of Ormond in the Pines.
Clara is remembered as a truly caring and selfless mother, grandmother, and friend, always ready to help those in need and never wanting to be a burden to anyone. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
Clara is survived by her son, Fausto and his wife Jayne and their 3 children, Jenny, TJ, and Amanda, her daughter Wilma and her husband Sal and their 2 children, Allyson and Donna.
