Clyde M.
Aiken, Iii
November 1, 1944 – August 14, 2022
Clyde Miller Aiken, III went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 14, 2022. Clyde was 77 years old and a resident of The Villages, Florida. Clyde passed peacefully in the presence of his wife of 49 years, Betty, and family. He was born on November 1, 1944, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Clyde's priorities in life were faith, family, and service. He was a member of United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities. One of his favorite pastimes was attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Clyde served four years in the United States Air Force before starting his career in banking. He was an active member of his community in LaBelle, Florida as a youth sports coach, City Commissioner, and member of the Rotary Club, Lion's Club, and Chamber of Commerce. Clyde was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing golf and attending University of Florida sporting events. He was an accomplished baseball and basketball player in high school and college, and a five time medalist in the Florida International Senior Games & State Championships. Clyde had a life-long love of music, thanks to his mother who insisted he practice his piano before letting him go play sports. He loved playing hymns on his piano, listening to the Righteous Brothers and Motown Music.
Clyde was predeceased by his parents Clyde and Harriet (Thorburn) Aiken of St. Simons Island, Georgia and his sister Lynne McGarity of Savannah, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his bother Joel (Patsy), two sons Ted (Kristi) and Steve (Jean), and four grandsons Joshua, Caleb, Luke, and Noah. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Trinity Springs and Compassionate Care Hospice for the genuine care and empathy shown to Clyde and our family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or New Covenant United Methodist Church. The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. The service will be held in the chapel of New Covenant United Methodist Church. The church will live stream the service on its website (ncumcfl.com) for those who may be unable to attend in person. Following the service, a reception will held in Clyde's honor at the Savannah Center in the Villages. Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society are providing funeral arrangements and can be reached at (352) 236-7813 for additional information. Clyde will be put to rest in the Florida National Cemetery with a private graveside service.
