Cynthia Marie
Haverkos
Jan 12, 1943 — Jun 18, 2026
Cynthia Marie Haverkos, a devoted elementary school teacher and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, at her home in Ormond Beach, Florida. Born on January 12, 1943, in Roanoke, Virginia, Cynthia lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a passion for teaching and family.
Cynthia’s journey began in Roanoke, where she was born to Cyril Charles Sobeck and Marie Stewart Sobeck. She was one of three children; her brother Charles Sobeck has preceded her in death, while her surviving brother, David Sobeck, remains part of her close-knit family circle. Cynthia’s early years laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to education and service to others.
She graduated from Ft Lauderdale High School before pursuing her passion for education at Florida State University, where she earned her Elementary Education degree in 1964. Her career as an elementary school teacher was distinguished by her dedication to nurturing young minds and fostering a supportive learning environment. Beyond her professional achievements, Cynthia was recognized as an outstanding homemaker, balancing her career with her devotion to her family.
Together with her husband, Raymond "Ray" Haverkos, to whom she was married for over 61 years, Cynthia shared countless treasured moments. The couple’s spirit of adventure and love for antiquing led them to operate a small antique shop. Though the business was never financially lucrative, it was a labor of love—a place they cherished simply for the joy of being together and exploring timeless treasures.
Cynthia’s warmth and loving spirit extended to her children and grandchildren, who were the center of her world. She is lovingly survived by her beloved husband, Ray Haverkos, two children, Denise L. Haverkos and James E. Haverkos, along with James’s wife, Laura. Her legacy continues through her three beloved grandchildren: Logan Haverkos, Alexander Haverkos, and Abbigal Haverkos, as well as their mother, Brenda Haverkos, and her brother, David Sobeck. Her family’s devotion was evident in the comfort and companionship that surrounded her in her final moments.
Throughout her life, Cynthia was known as a loving person whose kindness and gentle nature touched all who had the privilege to know her. Her passing leaves a profound void but also a lasting imprint of grace, strength, and unconditional love.
Cynthia Marie Haverkos will be remembered with deepest respect and affection by her family, friends, and all who cherished her. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love, education, and family, and her memory will forever be treasured.
